I am a playwright and theater artist who also writes poetry and makes visual art and videos. Language is the thread running through all of these. I’m interested in the connection between language and the here and now, our physical bodies, and the material, physical world. I don’t mean simply English — English and lettering are often metaphors in my work, but they stand in for all forms of language: cultural and social conventions, art forms, genres, fashion, even perception itself. In the tradition of postmodern philosophy, to me how we conceive of the world is made of language. To me, talking about how we conceive of the world — as opposed to issues within an existing conception of the world — virtually requires experimentation with form.
I’m the lead instigator of The Terror Cottas, producer and writer of the one-woman show Maker of Worlds, and a pretty good cook.
